This is a basic necessity for you to get started with the EOS M and Magic Lantern and while it may seem challenging it is not at all problematic. It just requires doing a few simple steps whether on a Windows or Mac computer.

How To Update the Canon EOS M Firmware

  1. Download the firmware (link)
  2. Unzip the zip file
  3. Insert unused card into Canon EOS M
  4. Open "MENU" change to format option to format card
  5. After Format complete power off camera and eject card
  6. Insert card into your PC or Mac (Link to the reader I use)
  7. Copy file from step 2 above to the memory card
  8. Eject card from OS
  9. Take card and insert into Canon EOS M
  10. Power on camera
  11. Make sure set to "Camera" mode
  12. Go To Tab for Firmware (If missing option)
  13. Click Ok
  14. Select 2.0.2 firmware (last available)
  15. Click Ok
  16. Wait for Success message
